NXP is a leading semiconductor company founded by Philips more than 50 years ago. Headquartered in Europe, the company has about 30,000 employees working in more than 30 countries and posted sales of USD 5.4 billion (including the Mobile & Personal business) in 2008.  NXP creates semiconductors, system solutions and software that deliver better sensory experiences in TVs, set-top boxes, identification applications, mobile phones, cars and a wide range of other electronic devices. News from NXP is located at www.nxp.com.

In those fields, NXP leverages a long history and active R&D investment in DSP technology, resulting in valuable IP such as the family of CoolFlux DSP cores (www.coolflux.com), now also part of this Constellations program.

The CoolFlux DSP is an ultra-low-power (ULP) programmable core optimized for the audio domain. It targets products including headsets, hearing devices, audio players and embedded audio sub-systems in general. This C-language friendly audio DSP core combines ULP with low gate count and good performance. NXP uses the CoolFlux DSP for custom-designed chips, and the DSP (with its tools and large collection of application software) is part of a global technology licensing program, resulting in a well-supported DSP platform and ecosystem.
Building upon the success of the CoolFlux DSP, NXP created a new embedded DSP core for ULP software defined radio baseband processing as well as sensor processing. This CoolFlux BSP (CoolFlux Baseband Signal Processor), recently also available as soft core via licensing, extends the classic CoolFlux DSP core with complex arithmetic, SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) parallelism and Viterbi and FFT instructions. Targeted applications are digital radios (DAB, HD), Bluetooth, WiMAX, LTE, DVB-C/T/H, etc.
